Advances in repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for posttraumatic stress disorder: A systematic review

چکیده
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as a treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has gained interest over the past two decades. However, it yet to be recommended in major guidelines. We conducted systematic review of randomized controlled trials examine efficacy rTMS PTSD. Thirteen studies with 549 participants were included this review. compared effects (1) versus sham, and (2) high-frequency (HF) low-frequency (LF) rTMS, on posttreatment PTSD scores other secondary outcomes. calculated standardized mean differences (SMD) determine direction effects, unstandardized estimate magnitude efficacy. At post-treatment, was superior sham comparison reducing (SMD = ?1.13, 95% CI: ?2.10 ?0.15) depression severity ?0.83, ?1.30 ?0.36). The quality evidence, however, rated very low due small samples sizes, heterogeneity, inconsistent results, an imprecise pooled effect. HF associated slightly improved, albeit imprecise, outcomes LF ?0.19, ?1.39 1.00) ?1.09, ?1.65 ?0.52) severity. Further research is required advance evidence treatment.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for major depressive disorder: a review.
Several studies demonstrated that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is an efficacious treatment for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder (TRD). Recent metaanalyses and more recent large multicentre studies provided evidence suggesting that rTMS is indeed a promising treatment; however, its efficacy has often been shown to be modest, compared with sham stimulation. We ...
متن کاملNoninvasive brain stimulation with high-frequency and low-intensity repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder.
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the efficacy of 20 Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of either right or left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) as compared to sham rTMS for the relief of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-associated symptoms. METHOD In this double-blind, placebo-controlled phase II trial conducted between October 2005 and July 2008, 30 patients wi...
متن کاملRepetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation of the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in posttraumatic stress disorder: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
OBJECTIVE The efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the right prefrontal cortex was studied in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) under double-blind, placebo-controlled conditions. METHOD Twenty-four patients with PTSD were randomly assigned to receive rTMS at low frequency (1 Hz) or high frequency (10 Hz) or sham rTMS in a double-blind design. Tre...
متن کاملEfficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for treating fibromyalgia syndrome: a systematic review.
OBJECTIVE To systematically review the literature to date applying repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) or transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). METHOD Electronic bibliography databases screened included PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, PsychINFO, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library. The keyword "fibromyalgia" was combined with ("transcra...
متن کاملA systematic review for the antidepressant effects of sleep deprivation with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation
BACKGROUND Sleep deprivation (SD) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) have been commonly used to treat depression. Recent studies suggest that co-therapy with rTMS and SD may produce better therapeutic effects than either therapy alone. Therefore, this study was to review the current findings to determine if rTMS can augment the therapeutic effects of SD on depression. MET...
